Connecting the “Masses” with HDBaseT

Details

As part of a recurring event initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1985, this year’s World Youth Days attracted more than two million participants. The international meeting, which took place in Krakow, Poland, brought together young people and their spiritual leaders in order to strengthen their faith and meet Pope Francis. The event enjoyed round the clock international media coverage with the central media campus operating continuously from July 24 through August 1, necessitating reliable, consistent transmission of the AV signals. Because some of the events took place outdoors, weather conditions presented a big challenge. Further complicating matters were the stringent security guidelines, which dictated that after the equipment was installed in areas to be visited by the Pope no service personnel could return for maintenance purposes. Using HDBaseT technology, television signals were split into video and audio streams and transmitted to more than 180 outlets, some farther than 100 meters away. To meet the long-distance connectivity requirement, HDBaseT transmitters and receivers were daisy-chained, considerably simplifying installation and operation.
