Digital Signage at Sea with HDBaseT

Details

Details:

Communication with passengers using public transportation is essential to keeping riders safe, informed and engaged.  The USA Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA), responsible for the San Francisco Bay Ferry, uses digital signage (which is visually accessible to hearing impaired passengers) to share information about its boats, the community, safety messages and location-based details, including a high-resolution ‘chart plotter’ that gives passengers a clear idea of where they are on the bay.

WETA was not satisfied with their existing basic digital signage system, where the TVs receiving the content were required to be set to a specific channel and passengers could unknowingly disrupt the transmission by changing channels. WETA required an optimized solution to control and distribute ultra-high-definition video to the numerous displays on the boats. They also wanted to replace and simplify their existing analog cabling by slimming down the wiring across displays (which are up to 150 feet/46m away from the headend), using a one-cable infrastructure.   This was made possible by implementing Atlona’s HDBaseT AT-UHD-CAT-4 and AT-UHD-CAT-8 next-generation 4K/UHD distribution amplifiers, which provide high-resolution, efficient signal distribution and extension, signal and power redundancy. The HDBaseT installation was simple from a systems integration perspective, saving setup time and money with minimal labor requirements, and without interruption to the on-board digital signage service.
